Martin Luther King Jr and 6:30am

Monday, January 21, 2008 6:34 AM

Happy Martin Luther King Jr day! Why is it a happy day? Other than the obvious of which MLKjr is known for, we all get the day off. The latter of which had escaped my mind until just now, at 6:30am.

I normally get up near 7am on a workday, but today I was wide awake at my first alarm at 6am. I figured I'd just get a head start on the day, I got up, showered, shaved, brushed my teeth, got dressed for work, and decided to kill 20 or so minutes on the internet before leaving. Presidential hopeful Ron Paul emailed me, yes we are super great friends and he emails me frequently updating me on his campaign and always asks me for advice, but anyways, I was reading his email about his second place win in Nevada, beating no-good John McCain, Huckabee, Thompson, and of course that bastard Giuliani. His email mentioned MLKjr, and I'm all "don't we get that day of--CRAP!!!!"

So I'm sitting here at 6:30 in the morning, all dressed up ready for the day, and no work to go to. I figured Id just take this time to update you all on my life, which I never do, maybe I'll throw a video up at the end ;)

New Years in Vegas: Sorry, I never really got back on and wrote about vegas. Cazi and I drove out starting at 12:30am on NYE and got there around 4am. We didn't get our room till 11am where I took an hour nap. Because I was moving out of my old place the day before, and since we were up for NYE, I was up for 42 hours without sleeping, which is a record, and another amazing thing was when I did go to bed, I wasn't really tired, Vegas has some weird magic. This trip was to spend NYE in Vegas and to attend my buddy's wedding on the 2nd. Tell you what, Vegas is the place to spend NYE. It's crazy! About a half million people out on the streets having a good time. We made our way to the intersection (they closed the strip down to cars) of Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd. At midnight several casinos shoot fireworks off thier roofs, where Mikael noticed they were all synced and had the same fireworks. We happened to be in the perfect location as we were right under the Flamingo fireworks and the second closest fireworks were right behind the eiffel tower, which was an amazing site. Afterwards it was mob-rule where everyone was pushing and people could have been trampled. Next time (because its so badass I'd do it again) I'll make my way to the intersection but instead of going right in the middle, make my way to the edges near the police barriers, that way when its over, I can chill there until the mob simmers down. Oh and I would wear warmer clothing, yeah it was like 30degrees and I didnt bring a sweatshirt or beanie or anything warm. We had the bachelor party on New years day, but cant write much about that as "what happens in vegas, stays in vegas." (side note: vegas = best bachelors party location ever!) Luke's wedding on the 2nd was cool. They got married in a little chapel near the infamous Vegas sign. The drive home seemed longer than the drive to Vegas, It always does.

School: I start a new semester this week, I'm taking two classes, back-to-back on Thursday. Thank God I don't have to drive down there multiple days, that just wears me out. Im excited, I have a renewed zeal in finishing my school, I only have a couple more semesters with taking a few classes at night. I did well last semester and am looking forward to this one.

Work: I'm loving work right now, I've been writing some new software for Human Resources to post jobs online and have job applicants submit the application and their resume online. This is especially important to me as this will reduce the use of paper significantly for HR. Also the banners I created last year are up again. If you drive around Temecula look up at the street lights, the blue and purple banners are the ones I created.

Life: As i mentioned two posts ago, I've bought a house. I bought it the first day it was on the market really cheap. The greatest thing is it didn't look like it needed a lot of work. I found out how true that statement was on Saturday with my home inspection. The guy came out to the house and checked out everything, ran the dishwasher, stove, oven, heater, a/c, all the sinks, showers, electrical outlets, attic, roof, and windows. Turns out I need a new water heater and garbage disposal, and a couple of other little things. All in all the inspection showed no major problems with the house. I can finally get excited about the new house with no worries.

I'm really excited about moving into my own house, a dream I've had since I've been a kid. I didn't think I'd ever own a house here in the valley as home prices skyrocketed out of afford ability. I was patient and took advantage of the market and got myself a gem. I'm excited also because it is a new starting point in my life. It's got me excited again about getting in shape. I bought a bowflex off of craigslist to work out at home, I also plan to get audio books on my ipod and do some walking around my neighborhood, and living by myself, I'll eat at home more often and will be less enticed to go out for meals.

Bowflex Ultimate 2

I've found a new love for craigslist, having never really used it before. I got the newest model of bowflex machines for $1400 less than brand new. I'm currently looking to buy some leather couches and a high efficiency front-load washer and gas dryer, I've seen pretty good deals so far, I've got the searches bookmarked. I also have to buy a refrigerator, I've found one at Sears that I love for about $1200.

And because what kind of post would this be if I didnt post a video:

A video of Ron Paul (big surprise) where he discusses Non-Interventionism, for all those Republicans who think we should still be in Iraq and disagree with Dr. Paul with his stance on the war.

Jonathan Eric Hall, Homeowner Take 2 (lets try this again)

Thursday, January 17, 2008 9:26 AM

My new home!, originally uploaded by jonathanerichall.

I put an offer in on a house last Monday and they accepted it. As some of you may remember I previously tried to buy a condo in March of 2006 and backed out of the deal after learning that it would cost me an additional $700/month in taxes and HOA. The condo was $330k and is probably now worth about $250k, so I totally made the right decision to back out of that.

This house is a one story, 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage, with a living room perfect for my big screen and surround sound and a large kitchen area. Surprisingly, being a foreclosure and all, it doesn't need new carpet, just needs some paint and a little TLC.

The bank foreclosed on it for 93k more than they sold it to me so I think I got a smokin' deal. Its in the Alta Murrieta section of Murrieta across from to big shopping centers, one the home of Buffalo Wild Wings (mmmmm Thursday night boneless wing deal, mmmm caribbean jerk)

Assuming the home inspection doesnt reveal a big reason to cancel the deal, I should be moving in in about a month.
